Blake Ibanez, known for his work in Power Trip, returns with a new band called FUGITIVE. Their debut EP, ‘Maniac’, delivers four original tracks of aggressive Thrash, showcasing an even rawer and looser ferocity compared to Power Trip. The EP is rounded out by a cover of Bathory’s legendary song, ‘Raise The Dead’, resulting in a succinct and serrated five-track release.
Joined by Seth Gilmore, Lincoln Mullins, Victor Gutierrez, and Andy Messer, Ibanez and his bandmates exhibit a cohesive and intensely violent crossover style in FUGITIVE. Drawing from their extensive studio and stage experience, they infuse the EP with a savage Death Metal vocal style reminiscent of Power Trip filtered through an Obituary meatgrinder. ‘Maniac’ hits with the heaviness of a head colliding with concrete.
Clocking in at just 17 minutes, “Maniac” serves as a fierce introduction to FUGITIVE’s future endeavors and serves as a reminder that the Texas heat remains a potent force in underground metal and hardcore.
