Description

Linkin Park’s debut studio album, Hybrid Theory, was released on October 24, 2000, by Warner Bros. Records. The album’s lyrical themes deal with troubles lead vocalist Chester Bennington faced during his adolescence, including drug misuse and his parents’ continual arguing and divorce, which was recorded at NRG Recordings in North Hollywood, California, and produced by Don Gilmore. Hybrid Theory is a combination of the band’s previous name and the concept of music theory and blending different styles. This is also the only record on which Dave Farrell, the bassist, did not appear.

Hybrid Theory featured four singles: “One Step Closer,” “In the End,” “Crawling,” and “Papercut,” all of which helped to propel Linkin Park to mainstream success. While “In the End” was the most popular of the four, the album’s singles have all gone on to become some of the band’s most popular songs. Despite the fact that “Runaway,” “Points of Authority,” and “My December” from the special edition bonus disc album were not released as singles, they were minor hits on alternative rock radio stations due to the success of the band’s singles and the album; “Runaway” has also made several radio appearances.

Hybrid Theory was a financial success after earning mostly positive reviews from reviewers when it was released.

[8] It was certified 12x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America after peaking at number two on the US Billboard 200. (RIAA). It also charted in the top ten in 15 additional countries, selling 27 million copies worldwide and becoming the best-selling debut album since Guns N’ Roses’ Appetite for Destruction (1987) and the best-selling rock album of the twenty-first century. [9] It won Best Hard Rock Performance at the 44th Grammy Awards for “Crawling.”
